Five Romantic Songs (1984) are settings of poems by the English Romantic poets Byron, Shelley, Wordsworth, and Tennyson, all based on the theme of lost love. Scored for Voice and Piano, they make a rewarding concert set, with their irregular rhythms and phrasing making them challenging but stimulating. Includes So, We’ll Go No more A-Roving; O, That ‘Twere Possible; Lament; extract from Lucy ; and Music When Soft Voices Die. Richard Hervig (1917-2010) was an American composer and educator, who taught music in colleges and universities across the United States. Dedicated to his wife, Five Romantic Songs form one of his better-known vocal compositions.
